I’m running for office (well, the board of directors of CIRA), vote early, vote often! There will be an online forum http://cira.ca/election on September 20-27.
So CIRA. If you have a .ca domain, you are a member. If you don’t have a .ca domain, well, why not?
“The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is a member-based not-for-profit organization, best known for managing the .CA internet domain on behalf of all Canadians, developing and implementing policies that support Canada’s internet community and representing the .CA registry internationally. We are building programs, products and services that leverage all the internet has to offer to help build a better online Canada, while providing a safe, secure and trusted online experience to all Canadians.”
Why me? Why not me! I’ve been putting cats and the Internet together for more than 30 years, from BBS to dial to university leased lines to Nortel 1 meg modem through dsl, through HFC DOCSIS 1.1/2.0/3.0/3.1 (and of course 1xrtt->evdo->gprs->edge->hspa->lte). (Matt and) I wrote the book/paper on DOCSIS.
The election will be from Sept 27 through Oct 4. Feel free to post your comments asking me what I would do/not do, or to explain why you think I’m the (best)/(worst) person possible for this!
And, or, well, there’s an online ‘town hall’:
CIRA will be promoting an online “Town Hall” on the Campaign Forum. Candidates are
asked to be online September 20, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET. During this time Members and
the general public can ask candidates questions and get immediate responses.
